BBC Studios Global Content is a production and distribution powerhouse that creates and nurtures original British storytelling and shares it with the world.
Comprising of four genres (Scripted, Unscripted, Kids & Family and Audio) and two global businesses (Global Productions and Global Content Sales), we are a collective of content producers and sales specialists with a global reputation for making and selling shows like Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing, Bluey, Baby Reindeer and Blue Planet. Our shows enthral, inspire and entertain audiences across the globe.
Our genres boast an impressive range of market-leading production units and indie partners with the capabilities and commitment to create world-class stories.
In Scripted, we have our Drama, Comedy and Fiction units. Our Drama and Comedy units have a long history of producing award-winning, genre-defining series, from EastEnders and Silent Witness to Inside No.9 and This Country. And our Fiction unit is a new venture focussed on developing exciting original authored stories.
Our Unscripted genre includes the world-renowned Natural History Unit (NHU), the Science Unit, the Documentary Unit, Specialist Factual Productions, Entertainment, Events, and Music.
We’re also home to a dedicated Kids & Family division producing superlative shows, from Bluey to Blue Peter, to inspire young minds; and BBC Studios Audio, a team specialising in iconic radio and hit podcasts, from thrilling dramas to unforgettable factual stories.
Global Productions consists of 9 international production bases across Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Benelux, Nordics, the US and South Africa, who create, deliver and produce mainstream hit formats and iconic brands, including the unparallelled Dancing with the Stars.
Our Content Sales teams work with all our production divisions to help turn the first sparks of an idea into award-winning shows, through investment, collaboration and our unique network of partners.
Beyond our stellar production brands, we’re always looking to develop, diversify and push ourselves in bold and exciting new directions. That’s why we work with a range of independent production labels and invested independent producers.
We've fully acquired several brilliant and distinctive labels including Baby Cow (Alan Partridge), Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer), Firebird Pictures (Wild Cherry), House Productions (Conclave), Lookout Point (Happy Valley), Sid Gentle Films (Killing Eve), Werner Film Productions (The Newsreader), Mothership (Secret Genius), and Voltage TV (Amanda and Alan's Italian Job). We work with a range of invested independent producers including Boffola (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Expectation (Alma's Not Normal), Mettlemouse, Turbine Studios (Small Axe) and Various Artists Ltd. (I May Destroy You).
And we work with production partners including John Downer Productions, Mindhouse, Red Planet Pictures, Rogan Productions, SISTER, Neal Street Productions and Zinc Media.
We produce award-winning content across multiple platforms, including digital and social media content, brand-funded content and podcasts.
Our digital series include Our Planet Earth, co-produced with Wellcome, which brought compelling stories of the changing climate and its impact on both wildlife and human health; Boss Pitches for C4.0 via Entertainment, featuring social media stars Nella Rose and GK Barrie; and natural history hit Big Cats 24/7 for PBS.
Brand-funded projects include Arts in Motion, in partnership with Rolex, which brings the best arts and culture to audiences worldwide.
We also have social producers embedded within our productions delivering social content for over 27 shows, including Casualty, EastEnders, The One Show, Strictly Come Dancing and Eurovision. Strictly’s 2024 social campaign reached an incredible 830 million global video views over the run of the series across YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. EastEnders 40th anniversary achieved 82 million global video views. And in a first for EastEnders, BBC Studios created an integrated digital series, Spiked, which followed a key storyline from the main series.
INCLUSION RIDER We’re committed to ensuring that at least 20% of talent on our productions, on- and off-screen, identify as being from an under-represented background: from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background, have a lived experience of a disability, identify as LGBTQ+ or are from a low socio-economic background.
THE PLEDGE We empower our senior leaders to take responsibility for behaviour on their sets and the accountability for acting when things aren't right.
ASSISTANT PRODUCER ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME One of the many ways we invest in developing the next generation. The programme is designed to take 15 skilled researchers from across the industry to participate in a 12-month funded training programme.
